A Walk Up The Halifax Citadel

The sun started to come out a few days ago but the air was still so cold, so I wasn't really "digging" it. Today was a little cloudy but the temperature was so much warmer and I was able to walk the streets of Nova Scotia without a coat. In fact, I was feeling so good today that I decided to take a hike to the Halifax Citadel, a National Historic Site to commemorate the participation of Halifax as a naval base during the British occupation.
The said site intimidated me at first because I knew that I would have to exert an effort walking up the hill if I wanted to explore the place. It also seemed quite big to me, so committing to explore it meant that I was in for an exercise. The site was open to the public but you are only limited to the trail path outside. A full exploration of the said site will have to wait until they open in May.

So, I had to content myself with these sites...I wasn't complaining though as I was glad to be out of the apartment and walking for a change. I was eager to take some photos that I can share with you guys.

I started at the foot of the site where these information boards / signage greeted me (see first photo and photo below).

As I was walking up the hill up, I was immediately fascinated by the surrounding buildings and my different view of it since I was on an elevated site. The building below was the first building that caught my eye.
Then as I was still looking down to the same street, I moved on to see what was further down the road where the building was at and saw this intersection. I believe this was the street I took on my way to Sackville Landing a week ago.

The Old Town Clock as seen from this angle.
As I continued walking up the site, my excitement increased as I saw more of the place. Not that I was allowed inside, but seeing these gave me a better visual of the said historic site.

Since I could not go inside, I just had to content myself with the view from the top.

From time to time, I would take pictures of the exterior walls of this former military stronghold.

...and then I would also take more pictures of my surroundings....

Looking far down, I saw streets from this hill and it just gave me a different perspective of the city.

Then, my attention went back again to the main site.

An entrance to the said fortress...If it were open, I don't think I'd manage to squeeze into that small door (right hand side of the photo).

Almost completing a walk through the grounds of the site, I see the spire of St.Mary's Basilica from a different view point.

I am greeted by the sight of the same building as I arrived at the starting point of my walk; and I manage a few more photos of the view from where I was at.

Walking down the path, about to leave the site I took the opportunity to take photos of some natural elements such as the ones below.

Too late for a welcome, since I just finished with my walk...This was a welcome sign from the parking area of the site.

Lastly, I wrapped up the whole trip with these perfect photos to end my perfectly refreshing walk.
